Addressing the Root Causes of Extremism through Political and Social Reform
Addressing the Root Causes of Extremism through Political and Social Reform: Proposals of Iraqi Civil Society
The aim of this initiative is to give voice and recognition to that part of Iraqi civil society that strongly opposes both ISIS and the sectarian government in Baghdad. The concerned associations have worked for years with nonviolent methods to build a united, democratic Iraq based on the rule of law.
Over the years they have launched numerous campaigns for national reconciliation, workers' rights, press freedom and initiatives against gender-based violence. Today, many of them are actively engaged in the activities of assistance and solidarity with refugees and minorities attacked by ISIS.
