This event will bring together trade unions, activists and academics from Europe and the Global South to discuss the necessity for, and the possibilities and implications of, ending fossil fuel production, particularly in Europe, within the decade in order to prevent the worst case scenarios of the climate crisis.  The event will have a particular focus on the Global South, in terms of platforming Global South trade union leadership, but also addressing the Paris Agreement equity principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capacities.  The event will give voice to trade unions and social organisations who are fighting for a rapid, just, worker-led economic and energy transition and facilitate an exchange experiences and strategies for achieving this transition within the decade, in particular petrol workers Unions in Colombia and Mexico.  This aim of the event is to provide insights on what the end of the fossil industry would mean in different countries, how to plan for it and how to connect the climate and labour movements to each other and to the academic expertise on rapid decarbonisation.
