Hearing against further liberalisation of port services
Public Hearing against further liberalisation of port services
The rejection by the European Parliament of the Port Package I & II was one of the most important successes of the European Trade Unions and the EP should be proud of such an achievement. GUE/NGL supported this fight. The European Commission is now trying once more to win the game with a different strategy both trying to keep dockworkers out of the process and claiming more transparency in the accounts of port services other than cargo handling. The EC proposal for a new draft regulation aims at opening the market and weakening safety including additional groups which have nothing to do with market access in port services, such as pilots. Furthermore there is an unacceptable attempt to limit strikes in the ports. Already the two largest German pilot associations and the European Transport Federation (ETF) rejected the proposal. GUE/NGL is asking MEPs, all delegations, concerned workers and Trade Unions to support the resistance against the new draft regulation COM(2013)0296 and to win the fight once more.
