Press conference: Situation in Sudan

Tuesday 09/06/15 @ 15:00, EP Press Room LOW N-1/201

Situation in Sudan with a delegation of the Sudan Call forces

A delegation of the Sudanese opposition from the Sudan Call forces will be present in Strasbourg in order to expose the results of the last elections in Sudan and the prospects of the peace plan.

The “Sudan Call” is a declaration for “the establishment of a State of Citizenship and Democracy”. It commits the co-signatories – representatives of political forces and armed opposition – to work towards the end of the war which is raging in Sudan and to undertake legal, institutional and economic reforms.

The organizations of “Sudan Call” boycotted the last elections of April 14 which reelected the President Omar Al Bashir, in power since 1989. The High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the European Union and the Troika (US, UK, Norway) have refused to give their support to these elections.

With the participation of:

Sadig AlMahd: President of the Umma Party

Amin Makki Madani: President of the Sudan’s Confederation of Civil Society Organisations, former President of the Sudan Human Rights Monitor (SHRM), detained from December 2014 until April 2015

Farouk Abu Essa: President of the National Consensus Forces, also detained from December 2014 until April 2015

Malik Agar: President of the Sudan Revolutionary Front – SRF

Gibril Ibrahim: Leader of the Justice and Equality Movement – JEM
