It is with great emotion and deep sadness that our Group learned of the death of Lothar Bisky.

“It is not only a comrade we have lost, but a politician who marked the history of the left in its entirety both in Germany and Europe. Lothar Bisky was a man who was open to all, a humanist and a man completely faithful to his convictions.  His death is a brutal loss that deeply affects both me and the GUE/NGL Group as a whole” said Gabi Zimmer, President of the European United Left/Nordic Green Left in the European Parliament. 

 

“It is not only a friend that I have lost but also the former President of our Group in the European Parliament whom I succeeded and whose great political experience taught me so much.”

 

Widely respected beyond the confines of the European Parliament and known for his commitment in favour of a social Europe, Lothar Bisky was a tolerant, loyal and a very cultured man. His modesty and his capacity to listen to his friends as well as his political foes made him a profoundly human person with whom it was a pleasure to engage with at all times.

 

Throughout all the years he worked on the European level, he asserted with determination his convictions for an open, innovating and democratic left. His death is a great loss for our Group and for the left in Europe.

 

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and comrades.

 

Ableben von Lothar Bisky, die GUE/NGL Fraktion trauert

 

Mit Emotion und tiefer Trauer hat unsere Fraktion heute vom  Ableben von  Lothar Bisky  erfahren.

 

“Lothar Bisky ist nicht nur ein Genosse, der uns verlassen hat, sondern ein Politiker, der die Geschichte der Linken in Deutschland und Europa geprägt hat.  Er war ein offener Mensch, ein Humanist, seinen Überzeugungen zutiefst treu. Das ist ein starker Verlust, der mich persönlich und die gesamte  Fraktion tief berührt”  äußerte Gabi  Zimmer, Vorsitzende der Fraktion der Vereinten Europäischen Linken/Nordisch Grüne Linke.

 

“Ich verliere nicht nur einen Freund, sondern auch den ehemaligen Vorsitzenden der Europäischen Linksfraktion, meinen Vorgänger,  dessen große Erfahrung  ich nutzen konnte.”

 

Lothar Bisky war im Europäischen Parlament weit über die Fraktion hinaus anerkannt und für sein Engagement für ein friedliches und soziales Europa geachtet. Er war eine tolerante Persönlichkeit, ein ausgleichender Charakter und verkörperte eine wahrhafte Kultur.  Seine Bescheidenheit, seine Fähigkeit  des  Zuhörens –  gegenüber seinen Freunden wie auch seinen politischen Gegnern – machten ihn zu einem zutiefst menschlicher Gesprächspartner, mit dem es jederzeit angenehm war, zu sprechen.

 

Während all der Jahre, in denen er auf europäischer Ebene gewirkt hat, überzeugte er als Politiker einer innovativen, offenen und demokratischen Linken. Sein Ableben ist ein großer Verlust für unsere Fraktion und für die Linke in Europa.

 

Unser Mitgefühl gilt seiner Familie, seinen Freunden und Genossen.

 

DECES de LOTHAR BISKY, le groupe GUE/NGL en deuil

 

C'est avec émotion et profonde tristesse que notre groupe à appris aujourd'hui la disparition de Lothar Bisky.

 

“Ce n'est pas seulement un camarade qui nous a quittés, c'est un homme politique qui a marqué l'histoire de la gauche toute entière en Allemagne et en Europe. Lothar Bisky était un homme ouvert aux autres, un humaniste et un homme profondément fidèle à ses convictions. C'est une perte brutale qui m'affecte profondément et affecte tout le groupe GUE/NGL ” a dit Gabi Zimmer présidente du groupe de la Gauche unitaire au Parlement européen.

 

“C'est un ami que je perds mais aussi l'ancien Président de notre groupe au Parlement Européen à qui j'ai succédé et  qui m'a fait bénéficier de sa grande expérience politique.”

 

Respecté largement au delà de nos rangs au Parlement européen et connu de tous pour son engagement en faveur d'une Europe sociale, Lothar Bisky était un homme de tolérance, de loyauté et d'une grande culture. Sa modestie, ses qualités d'écoute – de ses amis comme de ses adversaires politiques – faisaient de lui un interlocuteur profondément humain avec qui on avait plaisir à dialoguer à tout instant.

 

Pendant toutes les années où il a œuvré au niveau européen, il a affirmé avec détermination ses convictions d'une gauche ouverte innovante et démocratique. C'est une grande perte pour notre groupe et pour la gauche en Europe.

 

Nos pensées vont à sa famille, ses amis et ses camarades.
