GUE/NGL MEP Willy Meyer has expressed his deep concern following the Honduran Supreme Electoral Tribunal's decision to suspend the process of vote counting for the presidential election.

Meyer, who is Vice-President of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EUROLAT), also regrets that the incumbent candidate has claimed victory before the counting has even finished.

He commented: “We are hearing reports that several governments have already recognised Juan Orlando Hernandez as the winner of the presidential election based on a partial recount which, according to most of the other presidential candidates, was allegedly falsified by members of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.”

He added: “Despite this pressure from many Honduran and international actors to make this partial result definitive, the GUE/NGL wants to show its solidarity with the 'Partido LIBRE' and with its presidential candidate Xiomara Castro.”

“In order to respect the will of the Honduran people as expressed at the polls, we must defend the need to resume and finish the vote counting with all guarantees of transparency.”

El eurodiputado del GUE/NGL Willy Meyer, ha manifestado su preocupación por la decisión del Tribunal Supremo Electoral hondureño de suspender el proceso de recuento de los votos para las elecciones presidenciales.

Igualmente, también Vicepresidente de la Asamblea Parlamentaria Euro-Latinoamericana (EUROLAT) ha lamentado que el candidato oficialista haya proclamado su victoria antes de que se haya terminado con el recuento.

En ese sentido, denuncia que varios gobiernos hayan ya reconocido a Juan Orlando Hernández como el vencedor de las elecciones presidenciales en base a un recuento parcial y, según apuntan la mayoría de candidatos a las presidenciales, supuestamente falseado por los miembros del Tribunal Supremo Electoral.

Ante la presión de sectores hondureños e internacionales de dar este resultado parcial como definitivo, el GUE/NGL quiere mostrar toda su solidaridad con el Partido LIBRE y con la candidata presidencial Xiomara Castro.

Igualmente, Meyer ha defendido la necesidad de que se retome y finalice el recuento con todas las garantías de transparencia para que sea respetada la voluntad del pueblo hondureño expresada en las urnas.
