Spanish MEP, Marina Albiol, highlighted to the plenary: “Today we are hearing about reinforcing the border controls when a lot of the serious crimes are actually committeed by our own citizens.”
“We are hearing about ending transnational crime and terrorism, but if we want to achieve that we must start talking about ending tax havens and banking secrecy as well,” she continued.
“We heard yesterday that family members of King Juan Carlos of Spain used shadow companies and fake fiscal statements to divide the legacy of Marie-Christine of Bourbon.
“We also know about the allegations against the family of Commissioner Cañete and the case of the former head of the IMF, Rodrigo Rato.
“Ending transnational crime also means ending tax havens and banking secrecy,” Albiol concluded.
