He contested the “increasingly neoliberal, federalist and militarist pillars of the EU, seeking the concentration of economic and political power, making it gradually more evident that it is not possible to reform the EU.”  

Pimenta Lopes raised some alternative proposals to bring greater social and economic justice:

“Setting up a support programme for member states that wish to negotiate their departure from the Eurozone.”

“Renegotiation of sovereign debt, revoking the Banking Union and recovering public control of the banking sector, as well as sovereign instruments of economic regulation.

“We must defend the productive sectors and national productivity, while promoting workers' rights,” he continued.

“Above all, we must defend democracy and respect the sovereignty of member states.

“These are just a few proposals which will be achieved by the struggle of the peoples, paving the way for building another Europe in a framework of cooperation, peace and solidarity,” concluded Pimenta Lopes.
