Today, a signing ceremony took place to cement the longstanding ties between GUE/NGL and the Polisario Front, the legitimate representative of the occupied Sahrawi people.

The joint declaration commits the parties to hold regular mutual consultations and deepen cooperation in support of the struggle of the Sahrawi people for liberation.

Present in the signing ceremony were GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer and Mr. Mohamed Sidati, Minister Delegate to Europe of the Polisario Front.

“Our group reiterates its deepest solidarity with the Sahrawi people. We stand by their right to self-determination and freedom. We will support all efforts towards a fair and durable solution to the conflict in Western Sahara,” Zimmer declared.

Left MEPs make regular solidarity visits to Sahrawi refugee camps and liberated areas, and consistently bring Sahrawi issues to the European Parliament.

This agreement takes the relationship to a next level, making this a standing issue of concern for the political group.
