The Five Star Movement (M5S) is a progressive-wing political party in Italy, founded in 2009 by citizens who championed direct democracy, legality, environmental protection, defence of common goods and social justice. During its tenure in the Italian government from 2018 to 2022, the M5S successfully passed legislation related to universal basic income, anti-corruption measures and labor rights. Additionally, M5S advocates against austerity policies and promotes peace in Europe.
