The EU Foreign Affairs Council decided this week to impose restrictive measures against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

GUE/NGL rejects this decision, which is the continuation of the EU line of addressing political conflicts by external interference and imposed sanctions.

This political line also runs contrary to the promotion of political dialogue, peace, and the normalisation of the situation in the country.

This political line also contributes to the destabilization of the country, which does not benefit those in Venezuela who hold EU Member State nationality.

GUE/NGL rejects and condemns any attempt to overthrow the current Venezuelan Government, which has been democratically elected under the country's constitutional order.

GUE/NGL calls for the EU and its bodies to respect Venezuela’s sovereignty and international law and work constructively for dialogue (already in motion and supported regionally), cooperation and peace, instead of feeding conflict and confrontation.
