GUE/NGL welcomes Danish MEP Rina Ronja Kari who officially became a Member of the European Parliament and the Group as of today.

She replaces longstanding GUE/NGL MEP Søren Søndergaard who has stepped down to focus on his responsibilities in view of the forthcoming Danish national elections.

Rina, who is 28 years old, has a degree in business management from Roskilde University, Denmark. Before becoming an MEP, Rina previously worked with trade unions.

Rina will take over Søren Søndergaard's responsibilities, which include sitting on Parliament's Budget Control, Internal Market and Constitutional Affairs committees.

A special reception was held last night in the European Parliament in Strasbourg to both honour Søren Søndergaard and welcome Rina Ronja Kari.
