GUE/NGL MEP Jiří Maštálka addressed the European Parliament today on the situation in Ukraine.
The Czech MEP said: “While I think it is positive that we are discussing this topic today, we should have started much earlier, before the association agreement in November 2012. The association agreement is one of the factors that led to this civil war that we have today. The EU should have been more objective.
“100 years on from the start of WW1 we are today facing war on the European continent; we are seeing fascist tendencies and humanitarian disaster. Half a million Ukrainians are displaced.
“The EU should set up a Commission to investigate what happened, such as the use of snipers and the disproportionate use of force. I also fundamentally disagree with the banning of the Communist Party of Ukraine.”
