GUE/NGL, the Left political group at the European Parliament, has announced the results by consensus of its newly-elected presidium with Gabi Zimmer (Germany) remaining as the group's President.

MEPs elected also Tania González Peñas and Marina Albiol (Spain) – on a shared post arrangement – as well as Dennis de Jong (Netherlands), and re-elected Neoklis Sylikiotis (Cyprus) and Patrick Le Hyaric (France) as group vice-Presidents.

GUE/NGL warmly thanks Malin Björk (Sweden) who served as the group’s vice-President for the first half of this legislature.

At its first meeting today, the presidium reaffirmed the candidacy of Eleonora Forenza (Italy) for the upcoming European Parliament's presidency elections and the nomination of Dimitrios Papadimoulis (Greece) as the group’s candidate for the vice-President post.

Commenting on the election process, GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer said:

“The European Parliament must be a place for democracy and pluralism. We want the diverse views and aspirations of European citizens to be represented in the Parliament through full participation of MEPs and political groups. The Parliament must not be owned by the biggest groups alone.”
