During the European Parliament's plenary session this morning, a debate was held over the attack on a Médecins Sans Frontières hospital in Afghanistan which occurred over the weekend.

During the debate, Czech MEP Kateřina Konečná stated: “Innocent people have died; patients and staff who were taking care of others and serving in one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Instead of recognition they saw one hour of bombing and destruction of the only hospital in the region.”

Ms Konečná called for a full investigation into the attack: “Instead of words of apology, what we hear are lame excuses and lies. We need to offer our deepest condolences to the victims and then we have to make sure a full investigation is carried out. This is the only way to show who is to blame and that international law applies equally to everyone.”
