“After the imposition of sanctions against Venezuela, the US administration is now threatening military intervention against the country. GUE/NGL firmly condemns the intentions and declarations of President Donald Trump that violate international law. The group rejects any sort of military escalation against Venezuela, which would threaten peace in the region and bring war, death, destruction and destabilisation similar to the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, in countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. 

“Such threats are the complete opposite of the political dialogue that is needed and any genuine initiative that would pursue this objective in a non-intrusive manner, fully respecting sovereignty, peace, social progress, the Venezuelan Constitution and international law – a dialogue GUE/NGL has been calling for and supporting.”
