German MEP Martina Michels has taken over the duties of former GUE/NGL MEP, Lothar Bisky.

“We are delighted to count Martina Michels in our Group,” GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer said. “She has sound experience in European politics, particularly in regional and cohesion policies. Martina will be a strong asset to the European United Left/Nordic Green Left Group.”

Following her first plenary sitting, Martina Michels said: “As Lothar Bisky's successor, with whom I shared not only political allegiances, but also a long-standing personal friendship, I certainly have big boots to fill and I am aware of what a great responsibility this is. As a convinced European, I see this move as a continuation of my previous work on the political left in Europe, where I have fought for a better, more socially just and democratic European Union of citizens in both the Berlin House of Representatives and in the Committee of the Regions.”
