On the occasion of the 11th anniversary of Marwan Barghouthi's abduction, the first Palestinian Parliamentarian to be arrested, an International Meeting called “Freedom and Dignity” will be held in Palestine on 27th and 28th of April.

GUE/NGL MEPs Patrick Le Hyaric, Alda Sousa and Giorgos Toussas will take part in this meeting during which the situation of Palestinian prisoners and the endeavour to ensure their freedom and dignity, as an integral part of the struggle for freedom and dignity for all Palestinian people, will be highlighted.

Patrick Le Hyaric, who has called several times for a widespread political campaign to be developed and legal action to be taken on the basis of international conventions demanding the immediate and unconditional release of all Palestinian prisoners, has declared that this international meeting will be a first step to achieve these goals and will demonstrate strong support for the Palestinian people in their struggle for their rights and for peace.

GUE/NGL has been active in exposing the unacceptable situation of Palestinian prisoners, numbering today around 4500, among them 12 women, 219 children and 15 elected members of the Palestinian Legislative Council.

A l'occasion du 11ème anniversaire de l'arrestation de Marwan Barghouthi, le premier parlementaire palestinien à être arrêté, une réunion internationale «Liberté et Dignité» se tiendra en Palestine le 27 et 28 Avril.

Les députés du GUE/NGL, Patrick Le Hyaric, Alda Sousa et Giorgos Toussas prendront part à cette réunion au cours de laquelle seront mis en évidence la situation des prisonniers palestiniens et les efforts pour assurer leur liberté et leur dignité, en tant que partie intégrante de la lutte pour la liberté et la dignité pour tous palestiniens. .

Patrick Le Hyaric, qui a appelé plusieurs reprises à développer une vaste campagne politique et des actes légaux sur la base des conventions internationales exigeant la libération immédiate et inconditionnelle de tous les prisonniers palestiniens, a déclaré que cette rencontre internationale sera une première étape pour atteindre ces objectifs et sera un soutien fort pour le peuple palestinien dans sa lutte pour leurs droits et pour la paix.

GUE / NGL a été très actif pour faire connaitre la situation inacceptable des prisonniers palestiniens, dont le nombre aujourd'hui est d'environs 4500, parmi lesquels 12 femmes, 219 enfants, 15 membres élus du Conseil législatif palestinien.
