GUE/NGL has nominated its members to the Committee of Inquiry into emission measurements in the automotive sector as follows:

Full members are Kateřina Konečná (ENVI, TRAN), Neoklis Sylikiotis (ITRE, EMPL), Merja Kyllönen (TRAN, ENVI). Substitute members: Connie Ernst (LIBE, ITRE), Dennis De Jong (IMCO, LIBE) and Paloma López Bermejo (ITRE, EMPL).

Merja Kyllönen explains: “The Inquiry Committee has been set up in order to investigate alleged contravention and maladministration in the application of Union law which would appear to be the act of the European Commission and member states or their relevant authorities.

“The topics under investigation include: cycles used to measure emissions, tests reflecting the real-world driving conditions and measures addressing the use of defeat mechanisms; actions to oversee the enforcement and to enforce the explicit ban on defeat devices.”

Committee members will be supported by a broad working group of GUE/NGL MEPs, including members from those countries which have been affected most, to formulate the positions and outcomes of the GUE/NGL group on issues relating to enterprises, workers and their future. These are the issues that were unfortunately left out of the mandate of the Inquiry Committee. The working group will include, inter alia, the following MEPs: Xabier Benito Ziluaga, Estefanía Torres Martinez and João Ferreira.
