GUE/NGL statement on the situation in Portugal

GUE/NGL MEPs want to express their solidarity towards Portuguese workers and citizens in their fight for their rights and just aspirations, for the defence of the sovereign development of their country and the resolution of the grave economic and social problems that Portugal is facing.

In this sense, GUE/NGL condemns all forms of pressure and interference through which governments of European member states and, above all, the EPP leaders, are trying to condition the normal democratic functioning of Portuguese institutions, in particular its Parliament, in accordance with the precepts contained in the Portuguese Constitution. The GUE/NGL expresses its full solidarity with the Portuguese parties members of the GUE/NGL – the Portuguese Communist Party and Bloco de Esquerda.

Os deputados do GUE/NGL expressam a sua solidariedade aos trabalhadores e ao povo português na sua luta pelos seus direitos e justas aspirações, pela defesa do desenvolvimento soberano do seu País e a resolução dos graves problemas económicos e sociais que Portugal enfrenta.

Nesse sentido, o GUE/NGL condena todas as pressões e ingerências que a partir de responsáveis de Governos de Estados da União Europeia e sobretudo de dirigentes do PPE tentam condicionar o normal funcionamento democrático das instituições portuguesas, nomeadamente a sua Assembleia da República, de acordo com os preceitos contidos na Constituição da República Portuguesa e expressa a sua solidariedade aos Partidos portugueses membros do GUE/NGL – O PCP e o Bloco de Esquerda.
