The killing of Qasem Soleimani by the US was a criminal act – pure and simple – and they should be condemned for it, says Conny Ernst (DIE LINKE., Germany).

But this is not the time for childish reprisals and veiled threats. Cool heads must be brought back to the negotiating table and to revive the Iran nuclear deal. Far too much is at stake, and de-escalation is needed so that we can have a nuclear free zone in the Middle East. The US dropping the unjust sanctions against Iran and its people will go a long way in achieving that.
