Members of 60 local, regional and national parliaments met with MEPs in the European Parliament this morning to strengthen their network against TTIP, CETA and TiSA.

At the meeting organised by GUE/NGL, the parliamentarians were informed about the state of play of the ongoing negotiations by GUE/NGL Shadow Rapporteurs on TTIP and CETA*, Helmut Scholz and Anne-Marie Mineur, and were provided with an in-depth analysis of the agreements by Third World Network lawyer and activist, Sanya Reid Smith.

In a session chaired by MEP, Lola Sánchez Caldentey, the representatives shared information about what is going on in the campaigns against TTIP in the member states and regions. More than 1000 municipalities across the European Union have already declared themselves TTIP-free zones.

The parliamentarians welcomed a critical report on the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) adopted by the Economic commission of the Committee of the Regions, which was presented by Rapporteur Helmut Markov, Minister for Justice, EU Affairs and Consumer Protection in Brandenburg, Germany.

Looking forward, participants vowed to strengthen their network against TTIP, CETA and TiSA and to increase their efforts to stop the neoliberal trade agreements through a grassroots approach.
