GUE/NGL condemns in the strongest possible terms the twin bombings that targeted Syria's Kurdish minority in the early hours of this morning.

Basque MEP Josu Juaristi said: “Today millions of Kurds are celebrating New Year in the wake of the victory over IS in Kobanê. The victory in Kobanê has demanded great sacrifices, but it is clear the Kurds will not bow down for IS – not after Kobanê and not after yesterday's terrorist attack.

“We call for the perpetrators of yesterday's attack to be brought to justice. We support the Kurdish struggle for a solution to their long fight for self-determination. We call for Turkey to immediately stop the blockade of Kobanê and to allow in the help needed to rebuild the city as a first step and a sign of goodwill.”
