Another 5 years of unmet promises?

"The Von Der Leyen coalition has imposed austerity measures, reduced budgets for public services, increased the number of free trade agreements and advocates nothing but the market. In terms of fundamental rights, it's not much better: their migration policy reinforces Frontex in spite of their violence and normalises the construction of border walls. This coalition is also one of climate inaction and abandonment of its objectives, at a time when everything should be done to curb global warming. We will therefore be voting against this coalition, and on behalf of the millions of citizens who have had enough of all these backroom deals. We will continue to fight for a European Union that protects workers, the climate and the planet."

“Ursula Von der Leyen stands for a continuation of the policy that has led us into the worst cost-of-living crisis in decades. In her world, the rich and corporations pay fewer taxes, while austerity starves public services to death. Instead of solving crises in a just and transparent manner, von der Leyen prefers backroom deals with companies like Pfizer. Lastly, her inhumane migration pact will result in even more refugee deaths at Europe’s external borders.”
July 2024
As Ursula von der Leyen campaigns for another five-year term as President of the European Commission, the past five years have shown that Von Der Leyen leadership is fraught with backroom deals, unmet promises, and policies that threaten the fabric of European democracy. It is time for a change. Ursula von der Leyen represents a policy of Fortress Europe and neoliberal “business as usual.”
Her failure to deliver on the European Green Deal further highlights her shortcomings. Despite grand promises, Europe remains heavily dependent on speculative markets and fossil fuel industries, contrary to the interests and well-being of its citizens. The Green Deal, meant to spearhead a transition to a sustainable economy, has faltered under her watch, leaving Europe vulnerable to the whims of fossil fuel giants and speculative financial markets.
Another Europe is possible
We are the resistance to those neoliberal policies where workers have been forced to bear the brunt of these failures while VdL courted extremist leaders for support, betraying core EU values. It’s time for Europe to choose a path of solidarity, sustainability, and peace. The people of Europe deserve better leadership that represents their interests and aspirations.
