The Left in the European Parliament has decided that MEP Alexis Georgoulis will no longer be part of the group with immediate effect following information received about allegations of criminal offences and the request by Belgian authorities to waive his immunity, as announced by European Parliament President Metsola yesterday.

The decision was taken by mutual agreement between Alexis Georgoulis and The Left, in line with the proposal of the Greek delegation, and will remain in place pending the resolution of this case. 

The Left takes the allegations extremely seriously and is committed to preventing and eradicating all forms of violence and harassment. We stand with all survivors of gender-based violence. The Left considers the disclosure of the complainant’s personal information in the media unacceptable.
