The Left Group has officially requested a motion for resolution next week to address the deeply flawed hearing process for the incoming European Commission.

What should have been a rigorous democratic exercise has instead turned into a farce. Blatantly unqualified candidates have been waved through without meaningful scrutiny. As the EU’s only directly elected body, the Parliament is tasked with holding the executive accountable. Instead, it has abdicated its responsibility, undermined its own integrity and credibility, and betrayed EU citizens.

Adding insult to injury, the assessments and evaluations of the hearings were announced with shockingly short notice—so much so that even the official staff of the Committees were only informed an hour before the meetings were scheduled. This isn’t just bad planning; it’s deliberate tactics, unworthy of any political institution.

Meanwhile, the same political groups that delayed the process for backroom deal-making now seek to fast-track evaluations this evening. This betrayal has paved the way for the inclusion of two far-right nominees in the new Commission, one poised to become the first far-right Vice-President in EU history—a result of deliberate horse-trading among so-called “moderates.” The hypocrisy is staggering.

At today’s Conference of Presidents, the Left sharply criticized this disgraceful process which was met with deafening silence from other groups—a silence that speaks volumes.

The Left will not stand by. We have called for a resolution to demand accountability and transparency in this shameful process. Anything less is a betrayal of the citizens we represent.
