This Press Conference is part of the full-day GUE/NGL conference, jointly organised with MEPs Matt Carthy, Rina Ronja Kari and Josu Juaristi Abaunz (programme here), on fighting tax evasion and tax avoidance and taxing wealth for real tax justice. Citizens in EU member states loose at least 1 trillion Euros a year due to tax evasion and tax avoidance at a time when they are bearing cuts in wages, pensions and welfare benefits. This plunder of the public persists under the eyes and through the active help of member states and European institutions. Participating MEPs will make the case for serious whistle-blower protection to the benefit of citizens, appraise the work of the European Parliament's special committee on tax avoidance (TAXE) one third into its mandate and outline a new GUE/NGL agenda for tax policy.
